A big THANKYOU to everyone that turned up and helped, the perfect weather resulted in alot of helpers for our very first 30-minute cleanup at Waihi Beach. We had some great spot prizes donated by our sponsors and yummy sausages. Unfortunately due to unforseen circumstances Jim the Jellyfish could not make it but we did have a brief appearance of a real Jellyfish. Please be assured Jim has promised he will be present next time (December 11th).
With only word of mouth, a few flyers in cafes and a few ads put over the local radio, we ended up with 30 participants, including kids (So great to see them involved), and several other interested parties (those who happened on us and not prepared for today’s cleanup… promising to come next time.
All together there was about three Kleensacs full of rubbish collected, of which we have kept the choice pieces for the “Making Connections Jewellery Art Awards” – more about this proposed annual event later!!! The Council collect the rest of the rubbish.
Never has there been so much excitement and competition over who picks up the most or the best rubbish. We have decided to have prizes for both of these categories.
